Flagler ‘spec’ building project moves forward

In June, Flagler County commissioners approved a $90,000 subsidy to an unnamed developer to build a so-called “spec” building.

On Wednesday, speculation about that developer ended with news that Beutlich Development LLC has finalized the purchase of a parcel at the southwest corner of U.S. 1 and Otis Stone Hunter Road in Bunnell with plans to construct a 20,000-square-foot building, according to a county media release.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in December 2016, unchanged from the

November 2016 rate, but down 0.2 percentage point from 5.1 percent a year ago. There were 491,000 jobless

Floridians out of a labor force of 9,947,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in December.

Brunswick Boat Group’s local Palm Coast manufacturing facility will participate in the upcoming Classroom to Careers initiative this coming Friday, Jan. 27.

The effort, sponsored by the Flagler County Education Foundation and Flagler County Schools, seeks to provide students with a variety of opportunities to explore careers, especially in industries identified as important to economic development in Flagler County.

Flagler County Economic Opportunity responds to Gioia Sails expansion needs with creative new construction incentives.

New Jersey-based Gioia Sails is outgrowing the Hargrove Grade facility. It needs a space almost twice as big. The company considered leaving the county.  But it likes the local workforce and the area, and has liked working with Flagler County’s economic development department.

Thanks to a novel incentive package approved by the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, Gioia Sails will remain in Palm Coast.

Flagler County Unemployment and Workforce Numbers Released

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in November 2016, up 0.1 percentage point

from the October 2016 rate, but down 0.2 percentage point from 5.1 percent a year ago. There were 482,000

jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 9,881,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in

November.

On the heels of Manpower’s forecast earlier this week that Volusia County will lead the country in percentage of employers adding jobs next quarter comes another glowing national report.

“As Aveo Engineering continues to expand its Florida operations, a potential drag on the company’s American sales has been lifted.

The Federal Aviation Administration recently rescinded an “unapproved parts notification” issued against the aviation lighting company in June.” – Aaron London DBNJ
